At Blackwood Country Gates we know that our products need effective gate hardware including gate latches and hinges.

Without a gate hinge, or a gudgeon and pintle, a gate simply will not swing. And without a latch, it will not close securely. We provide our customers with all the accessories that their gate needs and, because we make them ourselves from our home on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, we know they’re strong and tough.

From the heaviest gate to the lightest, it will not leave our home without the appropriate hardware and hinges. And that includes hot-dipped, galvanized strap hinges as well as gudgeons, which we can craft to suit pillars and posts of any width. We also provide barn door hardware.

Hinges are working parts of a gate. But they can also be works of art, adding visual punch to the finished item. From regal palace gates to wooden doors on centuries-old churches, ornate hinges add character and style to a building while fulfilling a practical purpose.

Strap hinges, Australian made

All strap hinges are made here in Australia in our factory and are extremely heavy duty and made from 50mm x 6mm mild steel. Hinges should be 20% to 30% of length of gate as a rule of thumb, longer if you prefer. Hinges take 10mm Cup head coach bolts. Powder coated or galvanized.  Prices do not include GST.

Cover plates, Australian made.

The cover plates have been created to be used with the strap hinges to give the appearance and strength of a double strap hinge. They can be used when the thickness of the timber varies from the standard widths available. Made from 50mm x 6mm mild steel.

Centre eye double strap hinges, Australian made.

Powder coated or galvanized, these are made to take 70mm timber thickness.Hinges take 10mm Cup head coach bolts. We can make other sizes as a special order, add 20% to the standard price. Prices do not include GST.

Blackwood Country Gates’ double strap 16-degree hinges.

Corner eye double strap hinge, Australian made.

Powder coated or galvanized, these are made to take 70mm timber thickness. Hinges take 10mm Cup head coach bolts. We can make other sizes as a special order, add 20% to the standard price. Prices do not include GST.

Spearhead and Pointed Head hinges, Australian made.

All spear head and pointed head hinges are made from 6mm mild steel. Powder coated or galvanised. They come in 2 sizes, 450mm and 600mm in both single and central eye double strap. The double strap are made to take 70mm timber thickness. The hinges take 10mm Cup head coach bolts.

Australian-made hasp and staple

Blackwood Country Gates’ hasp and staples are made from 6mm steel with counter sunk screw holes. Ideal for security as the screws are hidden behind the front steel plate when secured with a padlock. Holes are counter sunk to take Bugle/Batten hex drive screws. Measurements: Total length 185mm, body 65mm, gap 25mm x keeper 90 x 50mm. 10mm diameter rod loop on keeper.

Gudgeons, Australian-made

All gudgeons are galvanized. Prices do not include GST.

All pins 19mm. Gudgeon thread, standard length 300mm. Longer thread available.

Formed, U and lockable Latches, Australian-made

Powder coated or galvanized. Standard size to fit 70mm timber thickness. The latches take 10mm cup head coach bolts. Other sizes available on request, add an extra 20% on to normal price. Prices do not include GST.

Slide Latch

Powder coated or galvanised slide latch. Our slide latches are designed to operate in both left and right directions. The body measures 220 x 40 x 6mm. The bolt is 320 x 13mm and the keeper is 100 x 30 x 6mm. Prices do not include GST.

Lockable Pad Bolts, made in Australia

Powder coated or galvanised Pad bolt. Body measures 210 x 65 x 6mm. The sliding bolt is 16mm diameter. Keeper base is 100 x 50 x 6mm. Prices do not include GST

Australian-made Pintle Plates

Our pintle plates are extremely heavy duty, made from 6mm steel and rated up to 150kg. Ideal for hanging barn doors and doors. Available in two sizes for client convenience. Counter sunk screw holes to take 5mm bugle/batten hex drive screws.  Left and right hand are available. Prices do not include GST.
